About the Program
Named for the righteous midwives of the Exodus, Shifra & Puah offers modest, practical help to new mothers — because sometimes the most meaningful support is a warm meal and knowing someone is thinking of you.
The early weeks after birth can be both beautiful and exhausting. Our program doesn't promise to solve every challenge, but we do our best to show up with something tangible: a ready breakfast, a helpful referral, or assistance finding cleaning help when needed. Every family's situation is different, and we try to be helpful within the limits of what we're able to offer.
What We Offer
Our services are volunteer-driven and subject to availability. Here's what we currently provide:
Breakfast Deliveries
Our main program: fresh, ready-to-eat breakfasts delivered to new moms for a few days after birth. A typical delivery includes overnight oats or yogurt, fresh fruit, muffins or pastries, and a drink. Simple, nourishing, and one less thing to worry about in the morning.
Lactation Referrals
We can connect mothers with trusted lactation consultants — local or virtual — and in some cases help with partial financial assistance. We're not consultants ourselves, but we try to help point families in the right direction.
Cleaning Help Assistance
Based on need and available funding, we can sometimes help subsidize short-term cleaning assistance for families who need it most. This is offered on a case-by-case basis and is not guaranteed.
Shabbos Packages
When donors or caterers partner with us, we put together ready-to-eat Shabbos packages for new moms. This is not a weekly service — it's offered occasionally when resources allow, and not currently active.
Kashrus Standards
- Under the auspices of Rabbi Zalman Liberow of Chabad of Flatbush
- Our chefs maintain fully Glatt Kosher, Pas Yisrael, Bishul Yisrael, and Chalav Yisrael kitchens with separate sinks for dairy and meat
- Fresh greens are either greenhouse-grown, Positive-checked lettuce, or soaked and carefully checked
- Beginning Tu B'Shvat 5786, breakfasts are made with Kemach Yashan only
- All items are assumed dairy unless labeled otherwise
