Common Questions

Everything you've wondered about Chabad of Flatbush — answered openly and honestly.

Our Chabad House is a home away from home — a place where we come together to learn and to grow, to discuss and to debate, to sing, to rejoice, and to celebrate. It is a place to inspire your family and to develop new friendships. We have an environment for Jewish men, women, and children that is relaxed yet challenging; a place of stability yet full of growth, with an atmosphere for reflection and joyous expression.
Yes, of course! In fact, the vast majority of people who participate in programs at Chabad are not Orthodox. Chabad is inclusive and non-judgmental, and our programs are open to all. There are no prerequisites for getting involved — whether you are affiliated or not, have much Jewish background or none, you are always welcome to our programs and services.
Chabad is an educational organization dedicated to helping every Jew, regardless of background, affiliation, or personal level of observance, to increase their Jewish knowledge, enthusiasm, and commitment. We invite you to explore the complex areas of Jewish religion, tradition, and practice in an open-minded and non-judgmental atmosphere. Each individual makes his or her own religious lifestyle decisions at their own pace — each mitzvah is an important step in personal growth.
Don't worry — everyone is learning, and we each begin someplace. What better place to learn than at Chabad, where our doors and minds are always open for questions and study? We'll always make sure you feel comfortable and know what's going on.
Yes. Our prayerbooks have both Hebrew and English, so you can follow along and pray in the language you feel most comfortable with. Learning and discussion take place in English — so you'll understand everything that's going on.
Certainly. A Jew is a Jew is a Jew — period. Chabad avoids labeling other Jews, since it tends to divide and create barriers between us. We have one Torah, we are one People, and we have one G‑d. Chabad endeavors to bring unity among the entire Jewish community.
Just come on by! Everyone who wants to explore Judaism and experience the joy of being Jewish is welcome. You can walk into a Shabbos service, a class, or a holiday event and you will immediately feel at home. Even our High Holiday services do not require membership or tickets.
