Chanukah 5777 Report
by Levi Liberow

Chabad of Flatbush hosted a Chanukah extravaganza on the first day of the festival of lights.

It began with a carnival in Eitz Chaim hall in Midwood attended by hundreds of children and their parents. They enjoyed lunch, a moon bounce, competitive chanukah booths and a grand puppet show by Small Wonder Puppet Theatre.

The large crowd continued to the Joyce Killmore Triangle on Kings Highway and E12th St, where they were greeted by joyful music and joined by 48th District Councilman, Chaim Deutsch.

Councilman Deutsch addressed the men, women and children describing the lives of his parents and many others who were only able to imagine eating matzah on pesach, using stray bullets as flames for their menorah, and forcing smiles for Purim. Now, in "the land of the free and home of the brave", we are able to openly and proudly practice our Yiddishkeit!

Councilman Deutsch concluded with a call to open up our eyes and see all the wonderful opportunities we have to help each other within the conmmunity.

Rabbi Zalman Liberow, Director of Chabad of Flatbush, added that the councilman's words echoed the call of the Lubavitcher Rebbe to open up our eyes and recognize the signs around us, signaling that the revelation of Moshaich is imminent.

Councilman Deutsch then kindled 2 flames on the impressive 12 foot menorah to the applause of the onlookers. He then posed for group pictures with members in the crowd who continued to enjoy traditional Chanukah treats.
